About the Assessments
Currently offering assessments from age 5+, the process for both ADHD and Autism is a thorough one which Dr Pearce will support you with at every step. Initial assessments involve the use of valid and reliable screening questionnaire's as well as conversations with the individual, family members, teachers, or others who know them well. This can help to develop a good baseline understanding of the individuals behaviours, abilities, and challenges in different contexts. The intention is to have a clear indication of whether a full diagnostic assessment is warranted and likely to be helpful.
If Autism is suspected, more specific, gold-standard diagnostic evaluations like the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS) will be used. This involves structured interaction and observation to identify behaviours indicative of ASD. Likewise, the evaluation of ADHD includes behaviour rating scales completed by parents and teachers and may require a more detailed assessment of cognitive functions including attention, executive function, and memory.
Please remember that this introduction provides a broad overview and that every person's experience with ADHD and Autism is unique. Dr Pearce encourages open conversation, questions, and a shared decision-making process to ensure that each individual's needs are being met throughout their assessment and treatment journey.
